The deadline is fast approaching to take advantage of homebuyer tax credits!
Whether you are a first-time buyer who qualifies for the $8,000 tax credit, or a current homeowner who wants the $6,500 tax credit, you have only until April 30, 2010 to take action. Federal deficits, budget cuts and political jousting make it highly unlikely that Congress will approve another extension of these popular tax credits, and many economists expect interest rates to increase soon.
The bill extends the current tax credit of $8000 to first time home buyers for contracts written by May 1, 2010 and settled by July 1, 2010. There will be no extension past July 2010.
The bill also includes a $6500 Tax Credit for homeowners who have lived in their homes for the last 5 years and have adjusted gross incomes of less than $150,000 (individuals) and $225,000 (joint filers)
